Memory Verses

A little while back I wrote about using the Charlotte Mason Scripture Memory System. We finally got started, and I’ve been very excited with the system so far. This is not only a great way for the kids to learn memory verses, but for me to learn memory verses as well!  I thought I’d share a couple of videos of the kids saying a couple of memory verses.

Troy usually speaks a little clearer, but he was super excited/crazy because I was videoing him. Here’s Troy saying James 1:22: “But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

And, here’s Ella saying Ephesians 6:1: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

The Books of the New Testament

Ella can almost say all of the books of the New Testament. I’m amazed at how well she seems to be able to memorize things, and I can’t wait to dive into teaching her more Scripture  - she can already quote Mark 16:16 (challenging myself to memorize more as well!).

One of her favorite Bible characters right now is Peter. We taught her that Peter wrote two books of the Bible, 1st and 2nd Peter. Because of that, every time she gets to a “1st and 2nd” in the list of the books of the New Testament she wants to say “1st and 2nd Peter!” She’ll get it before too long, though, I’m sure.

Please excuse the poor phone quality video and the crumbs on the table (can you tell where Ella ate?).

Big Sister is So Funny (a short video)

I am hating the fact that I have been so busy the past couple of weeks that I haven’t had time to do some real blogging. Hoping that things will slow down next week! But, I wanted to share this video (iPhone quality) of Ella and Troy. I think it is precious (granted, I might be just a *bit* biased).

Silly, Silly Girl!

Just a couple of videos of Ella being silly. In the first one she starts "dancing" when she hits the music on her toy. In the second one, she's playing with a box of fruit snacks. She got a hold of the box, and I let her play with it because I didn't think she could open the fruit snacks (and she hasn't) but she has literally played with that box of fruit snacks for at least an hour today! Who knew I was buying such a fun toy?

Finally!

As a new parent I probably can't count the number of times I've had other parents tell me that my child will prove me wrong. Well, Ella has certainly proved me wrong. At Thanksgiving, Ella was pulling up on furniture and cruising around. I thought for sure she'd be walking by Christmas . . . and I told folks I knew she'd be walking by then. Ella proved me wrong, and refused to walk by Christmas. As her first birthday approached, I just knew she'd be walking by the time she was a year old. Ella proved me wrong, and refused to walk by her first birthday. Two weeks after her first birthday she took a real step. I just knew this was it - she'd be walking any time after that first step. And once again, I told folks she'd be walking any day after that. Ella proved me wrong once again. Finally, today, after months of proving me wrong, Ella walked. And I have some proof below!

Ella and Leaves

I know spring isn't normally the time of year you think of falling leaves, but we have some around here. Ella had so much fun playing in them!

More

I wanted to do a proper blog post, but I'm finding that I really just want to savor my day off! So, just another video of Ella today (from the same time when the feeding time pictures were taken). One of my friends let me borrow Sign With Your Baby, a book about teaching your baby sign language. We've been working on one sign with Ella for several months now: the word "more" (as in more food, more bottle, etc.). She usually just laughs and smiles at us while we do the sign with her, but she finally did the sign a couple of days ago and I caught it on video (plus some other funny stuff). (The sign for "more" can be found here.)

A Joy of Parenting: Watching Ella Learn

Even though Ella is only 10 1/2 months old, I've truly been blessed by her. She has already taught me many things, and brought great joy to my life. One of the many things that always brings a smile to my face is seeing her learn to do new things. It is sometimes hard to imagine that 10 1/2 months ago she couldn't even hold her head up, and now she is saying her first words, crawling, pulling up, cruising along furniture, and doing many other things.

This first video shows Ella doing one of her newest tricks: "touchdown!" She also shows up she can pull up, and even stand up (on a crib mattress no less) without holding on to anything.

This second video shows Ella playing with one of her toys, her cookie jar. When she first got this toy, she liked hearing the music and watching the lights, but really couldn't do anything much with it. Now she can place the pieces inside the cookie jar, know to look inside to find the pieces, and take the pieces out. Hopefully one of these days she'll learn to match up the shapes with the cut-outs on the sides!
